iOS 27 Find My: Set a Location-Sharing End Time for Your Next Trip

Set an end time when another person only needs your position for part of a trip. Pausing a share and stopping it can have different results. Choose based on whether you want access to resume.

Apple began rolling out iOS 27 on September 14, 2026. Its current iPhone guide documents a custom sharing duration or end time, as well as a way to pause sharing with one person. This guide focuses on those controls for a sales rep traveling to a conference.

Imagine you arrive in Denver on Monday and leave Thursday. A colleague is collecting you at the airport; several other contacts want coffee during the week. The pickup and the coffee plans need different information. Start by deciding who needs your moving position, for what purpose, and for how long.

In Find My, open People, use the add control to start sharing, select the contact and confirm. At the duration choice, select Custom and set the duration or end time. These are Apple's documented steps for the current iPhone software.

For the Denver pickup, choose a window that covers leaving the terminal and reaching the agreed meeting point. Tell your colleague which exit you will use as well. A map position alone may leave you on opposite sides of a busy arrivals area.

If the flight is delayed, revisit the arrangement and tell your colleague what changed. Avoid extending the sharing window through Thursday simply because the whole trip lasts that long. For a later customer meeting, a confirmed address and local appointment time may be all you need to exchange.

Apple says Hide Location resumes sharing automatically the next day. To pause one person's access, open their entry in People, select the more menu and choose Hide Location. Use the stop-sharing control instead when you intend to end that person's access.

If Monday's pickup is over, a temporary pause may be the wrong choice. Ask yourself whether you want that colleague to see your position again on Tuesday. Choose the control that matches that answer, rather than assuming any disappearing map position means the share has ended.

Do not rely on a change being unnoticed. Apple's safety guide warns that recipients may notice sharing has stopped, and earlier operating systems may show a notification in Messages.

Once the conference is over, review the people you shared with and decide which arrangements still serve a purpose. Do this while you are closing out the trip, alongside expenses and follow-up notes, rather than leaving it for the next visit.

Apple also documents a Notifications About You section under Me in Find My. Review any arrival or departure alerts there and delete ones you no longer want. Check these alerts as well as the list of people you share with.

Treat this review as one part of managing your phone's privacy. Changing a Find My setting is not evidence that another app has stopped collecting location data. It also cannot take back information a recipient has already copied. If a work destination is sensitive, check your employer's rules before sharing it through any service.

For advance planning, manually save the place and dates in the Droozi mobile app and choose the audience category for that plan. This lets you separate the conference visit you want to discuss from a temporary airport pickup arrangement.

Droozi stores the place you select, including its coordinates. Choose a city when that is enough; selecting a specific venue can save a more precise point. A plan's audience is also worth checking each time, rather than assuming everyone in your contacts needs the same information.

An agreed place and time can be enough for coffee; a moving position can help during a pickup. For a crowded venue, agree on a named entrance and a fallback meeting point before you arrive. Give each contact the details they need for the time you will spend together.

Before your next visit, write down the actual coordination problem: 'We need to find each other outside arrivals' or 'We need an hour together on Wednesday.' Share the details that solve it. Once that purpose ends, review the access you granted and keep the next meeting's arrangements separate.
