Airbnb's New Travel Map: What Friends Can See Before and After Your Trip
Sharing an upcoming visit can help you catch a friend for coffee. Before you share, check what the same trip will reveal once you have returned home.
Future Location Sharing
Check what Airbnb connections can see before and after a trip, preview your sharing choices, and share only the details needed to arrange a meetup.
An upcoming visit can become a more detailed travel history
Review Airbnb's travel-map sharing when you plan a visit and again after it ends. Airbnb announced the map in its September 30, 2026 fall update, describing a way to discover places through people you know and message them about their travels.
Imagine you are traveling for work and hope to meet a former colleague. Sharing your destination makes that conversation easier. You may also be happy to recommend your accommodation afterward, but that is a separate choice from telling someone you will be in town.
Before accepting a connection, think about what you want that person to learn. A colleague who needs a coffee window may not need your travel history. Someone helping you choose a place to stay may find past-trip details useful.
What connections see before and after a trip
Airbnb documents different levels of detail for upcoming or ongoing trips and completed trips. Sharing an upcoming trip continues after it ends, so review both stages before deciding.
A shared destination and month can start a conversation, but they do not establish that you and a friend will be there on the same days. Ask directly before suggesting a time. A three-day work visit at the start of a month will not overlap a friend's weekend at the end.
- Before or during the trip: the travel map shows the destination city, region and country, plus the month and year. Exact travel dates are not shown.
- After the trip: depending on what you arranged through Airbnb and chose to share, connections can see dates, a listing link, reviews and guest-count details. For a stay with services or experiences, you can share the stay alone or include those additions.

Preview your map before accepting connections
Airbnb's setup lets you preview each trip and choose which ones to show. Map sharing with another person starts once one of you accepts the other's connection invitation.
For later changes, open Account settings, then Privacy settings, then Trip visibility. Select the trip and inspect the preview. You can also change its visibility from the travel map or Trips. A blurred trip on your own map indicates that you have hidden it from connections.
Review older visits before sharing them with someone you met recently. Start with the trips you are comfortable discussing, and revisit that choice when your professional or personal relationship changes.

Hiding a trip has limits
A travel-map setting does not change the Airbnb trip details available to fellow guests who joined it. Airbnb also says a fellow traveler may share their own trip even if you hide yours; that does not change what connections see about you on your map.
Treat a visibility change as a change to future access. It cannot make someone forget what they read or remove a screenshot they already saved. Before sharing a group visit, agree on what each person is comfortable posting, especially if the visit mixes work with personal time.
Airbnb describes the map as sharing trip information and says it does not share your exact location during a trip. Do not assume a person's map entry tells you where they are standing or that they are available to meet. Send a message and wait for a reply.

Use Droozi to share the visit you want to meet during
For a meetup, you can add a future location in Droozi's mobile app using a place, dates and an audience category. Choose a city when the purpose is to find out who can meet during your visit. Droozi stores the place you select, so choosing a specific venue can share that venue's coordinates; city-level sharing depends on your selection.
The audience choices are categories, not a list of individually selected recipients. Check which contacts belong to a category before using it. These Droozi choices are separate from the visibility settings on your Airbnb travel map.
- Open Plans, find My travel, and tap Share a city to open Add Future Location.
- Select the city and set the start and end dates for the visit you want to share. Leave accommodation and confirmation details out of the place you choose.
- Under Share with, review All contacts, Personal, Work, or Personal + Work. All contacts is the starting selection; change it if the visit is only relevant to one category.
- Tap Save Future Location. When someone is interested in meeting, confirm the day, local time and a recognizable meeting point directly with them.
Review sharing when your plans change
Set a reminder to review the shared visit after you return, when Airbnb can show completed-trip details. Check the preview again and decide whether to keep that trip visible. Review saved plans in other apps separately.
Before leaving, tell the people you are actually meeting if your dates change. If a work dinner fills your only free evening, update the invitation rather than leaving someone to infer availability from a map. The message can be short: 'Wednesday no longer works; could we meet Thursday at lunch?'
Methodology
- We checked Airbnb's September 30, 2026 announcement and current Help Center instructions on October 1, 2026. The controls described here come from that documentation, not a test of every account, device or rollout. Source-check dates are separate from publication.
- The work-trip example is fictional. Our suggested sharing boundaries are editorial advice for frequent business travelers, not Airbnb requirements.
- We checked Droozi's manual place, date and audience steps against store-released mobile source and the documented production backend on October 1, 2026. This workflow does not depend on unreleased mobile changes.

Quick FAQ
Does Airbnb's travel map show my exact upcoming travel dates?
Airbnb's instructions say upcoming and ongoing trips show the destination and month/year, without exact dates. A shared trip can show more detail after completion. Check its preview before sharing and again after your return.
Does hiding an Airbnb trip also hide it from fellow guests?
No. Travel-map visibility and access to Airbnb trip details for fellow guests are separate. A fellow traveler can also share their own trip; Airbnb says that does not change what connections see about you on your map.
Can I arrange a meetup without sharing my accommodation?
Yes. Start with your city and available dates, then agree on a meeting place with the participants. In Droozi's mobile app, choose a city when adding a future location and review the audience category. Avoid selecting your accommodation as the place if you do not want to share it.
